Rockstars & Rips: Famous Cannabis Entrepreneurs

There’s no doubt that nearly everyone is trying to get their hands into the current legal cannabis market. From former and current politicians, athletes, influencers and other public personalities, it seems there’s no end to the rush of development. Music and cannabis have always had a mystical connection, so it makes sense that prominent musicians would also want to join in on the fun. Here are just a few of them:

Lil Wayne

Arguably the most famous rapper in the world, Lil Wayne aka Weezy has broken ground in other surprising (and some not surprising) directions, including his foray into rock music and skateboarding, to name just a few. The Cash Money Records protegé has now also become a cannabis entrepreneur with the launch of his GKUA Ultra Platinum brand that will “offer a line ofhigh-potency cannabis products designed to provide consumers with ‘the best high of their lives.” And, if we know anything about Weezy, it’s surely going to be ‘lit’.

Willie Nelson

A bona fide living legend in country music and cannabis activism, Grandpa Willie, The Redheaded Stranger has had a long and storied career of touring, recording, hijinx, and of course, enjoying high-quality marijuana. It only made sense that a few years ago he decided to claim his own stake in the “budding” industry. His brand boasts premium cannabis products such as flower, concentrates, pre-rolls and more: “The legend of Willie’s stash lives on inWILLIE'S RESERVE™ , a trailblazing line of marijuana products that celebrate Willie’s love of cannabis and the culture surrounding it.”

Jim Belushi

Though his more famous brother John infamously overdosed at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Los Angeles in 1982, the younger brother Jim has also had his fair share of Hollywood success - including a long standing membership in the Blues Brothers Band. Check outBelushi’s Farms (Eagle Point, Oregon) and you too can groove in style with such signature brands as “Belushi’s Secret Stash” & “Captain Jack”.

B-Real

A pioneer of hip-hop’s “Golden Era”, B-Real of the California-based group Cypress Hill has long advocated the benefits of cannabis. As legalization arrived he has now taken his passion into the dispensary field, with as many as five being open in the greater Los Angeles area. Ever the canna-progressive, B-Real also has his own cultivar propagated by Humboldt Seeds, the aptly named “Dr. Greenthumb’s Em-Dog by B-Real ”. A cross between the classics OG Kush and Chem #4, this buzz is a “can’t miss”!

Oteil Burbridge

Jamheads and jazz/blues music aficionados are surely familiar with Oteil, the bomb-dropping bassist that has played with everyone from members of the Grateful Dead, Allmans Brothers, Phish, and various other acts and musicians. His infectious energy on stage and off has made him the favorite of any lineup he may appear in, and so it follows that he would want to extend his vibes to us all (in cannabis form). Be sure to check out his excellent cultivar:Oteil’s Egyptian Kush .
